William R Schettler, age 89, of St. Louis, passed away on Friday August 4, 2017. William was born October 31, 1927 to Adeline Schettler nee Harris and Edward Schettler.

William is survived by his children, Edward (Pam) Schettler, Patricia (Paul) LaVista, Dorothy Garner and Donnie Frischman; granddaughter Heather (Josh) Flow, granddaughter Jill (Jason) Alsup, granddaughter Rachel Robins (Travis), grandson Joseph Mulenex, granddaughter Kristen Jolly and grandson Kurt (Joan) Frischman, great granddaughter Adeline Alsup and great granddaughter Alice Alsup. William is also survived by many loving step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

William is also survived by many loving step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

William was preceded in death by his wife Agnes Schettler; brother Edward Schettler; father Edward Schettler and mother Adeline Schettler nee Harris.

William worked for many years as a self-employed sheet metal worker. In his retirement he enjoyed fishing and gardening and was known to spontaneously break out singing. He was a World War II era U.S. Army Veteran and a faithful member of Salem Lutheran Church.

A funeral service will be held at 10 am, Thursday, August 10, 2017, at Salem Lutheran Church, 8343 Gravois Rd, St. Louis, Mo. 63123. Interment will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-8 pm, Wednesday, August 9, at Hoffmeister South County Chapel, 1515 Lemay Ferry Rd., St. Louis, Mo. 63125; and at church from 9 am until the time of service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in William's memory to the Backstoppers at Ste A5, 10411 Clayton Rd, St. Louis, MO 63131, or at backstoppers.org.
